We’re cooking up a new idea for a podcast series on rural food traditions. And we’re starting where many meals across diverse food traditions begin: bread.

Food is a uniter; and across culinary traditions, bread is a common thread.

We want to talk with folks who are practicing a family or regional tradition around bread making  — and share the stories behind questions such as:

How did the practice begin?

How did you learn to make bread?

Why is it important to you, your family, community, or culture?

How do you plan to pass on the tradition?

Is it a recipe made for a special occasion?

We are interested in talking with bread-makers across the country, especially in these regions:

• Deep South
• Central Appalachia
• Midwest
• The Plains
• Southwest
• The West
