Rural Assembly Announces New Deputy Director

Libby Lane

The Rural Assembly is pleased to announce Libby Lane as its new Deputy Director.

A program of the Center for Rural Strategies, The Rural Assembly is a movement of people and organizations devoted to building a smarter, greener, more inclusive Rural America.

Lane will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Rural Assembly, supporting projects, campaigns, and relationships that sustain rural development and address the unique challenges facing rural communities.

“I’m honored to have been chosen to support the work of Rural Assembly, and I’m humbled to  work alongside others who are championing the voices of rural people and places at the national level,” Lane said.

Prior to joining Rural Assembly, Lane served as Senior Marketing Manager for Bostrom, an association management firm in Chicago. She has 15-plus years of combined experience in the fields of non-profit management, marketing, event planning and user experience (UX), working with a global portfolio of clients to showcase their brands and create meaningful connections with their customers through digital channels, content marketing/strategy and, most importantly, human interaction met through vulnerability, empathy, and truth.

Lane earned her BFA in Musical Theatre from Millikin University and her MFA in Acting from Western Illinois University. Born and raised in the Forgottonia region of rural west-central Illinois, she now lives in Chicago with her wife and rescue dog Roxie.

“As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I feel especially called to champion Rural Assembly’s promise to build a more just and inclusive nation by centering marginalized voices, especially women, LGBTQ+ voices, people of color, migrants, and immigrants,” she said.
