Stories From Our Neighbors

People need to know that they are not alone. This will come to an end, and we all need to remember what it was like when the world slowed down... We need to learn how to say "No."

We're just carrying on with the work we've always done, in addition to dodging something you can't see, smell, hear, or touch

We started planting our garden this week, and our little girl has been growing and becoming a new person everyday. It's so fun to watch her personality develop along with her language skills. I am trying to soak up the good parts of being at home and together a lot more than usual and trying to take care of myself and relax before baby #2 arrives. Never thought I'd be pregnant and giving birth during a pandemic!

We are hunkered down at the farm and planting for the end of days. Our county is full of conspiratorial theories… Stuck in a far side cartoon.

Thank you so much for asking how I am. I don't think anyone has asked me that in two weeks. To be fair, if they had asked I have no idea.

I set up a fish tank in my kitchen as things were beginning to shut down. The fish tank is a terrific distraction, and quite relaxing to watch. I also have been giving friends and family updates… I've taken to Facebook Live to give friends and family updates on plant propagation and fish.”

Three weeks ago my former neighbor's brother died after his house caught on fire during the early morning hours and he suffered smoke inhalation. No one could go to a funeral. They want to support his sister-in-law but can’t do anything right now. On a positive note, when things get too closed in, they hop in the car and just take a drive. Vernis and Ramona are from that tough generation of elders that we know from our own lives and family. They’ve been through a lot and will manage through this crises as long as they stay healthy.

My partner is an essential worker and no one's required to wear mask at his job. I'm trying to stay patient and positive...but I am immune compromised and had pneumonia in January.

I’m a mental health and substance abuse counselor and the population I work with is at greater risk of both COVID-19 and of complications due to not being able to regularly access treatment services... We have developed a telehealth counseling service to offer new and former clients access to mental health and substance abuse counseling from their homes... We’ve gotten a lot of new clients which has both added to the stress and relieved it knowing that people can still get the services they need.
