Rural communities are on the front lines of climate change. Rural America is home to more than 60 million people and comprises 80 percent of the country’s land area. It holds a wealth of solutions for a nation struggling to fuel its economy, feed a hungry planet, and address climate change. Rural communities must be involved in creating climate-change solutions. But to do so, rural communities must see their self-interest in the issue and feel engaged in the conversations that shape those solutions. The National Rural Assembly will work with the Rural Climate Network, a coalition of over 45 organizations, on a comprehensive public information campaign to focus national attention on the critical role of rural America in addressing climate change, and to examine links between rural poverty and effects of extreme weather.
