Are you a young adult in the early stages of your career?  Do you have a young professional in your organization who would benefit from an opportunity to learn the art of Public Narrative and apply it to national and local rural policy issues? If so, we hope that your organization will consider sponsoring them to attend a pre-conference leadership training day and the 2013 National Rural Assembly.

The National Rural Youth Assembly is excited to provide a
youth-focused day of professional development prior to the full gathering of
the National Rural Assembly in Bethesda, Maryland. We are inviting young adults
working in rural communities to join us on June 23 for a full day of training
on Public Narrative.

Public Narrative is a tool designed to teach us
how to use our stories and values to motivate and inspire others into action.  Developed by Marshall Ganz of the Kennedy
School of Government at Harvard University, this method has been used with
great success by many groups, including members of President Obama’s 2008
campaign team and the DREAMers inititative.

Read this article by Marshall Gantz to learn more about
Public Narrative and why our stories are powerful.

For participants to the Young Professionals Leadership Training:

Some light “homework”.  It’ll be important to come to the training as prepared as possible.  We want you to hit the ground running!

If you were unable to join one of our pre-conference webinars with Public Narrative facilitator, Matt Lewis, have a listen to the recording.  It’s a good overview of what to expect from the training. Or take a look at his PowerPoint presentation (ironically in PDF format).

Participants attending the Young Professionals Leadership Training will be asked to do some minor prep work leading up to the conference including up to two webinar/conference calls with the training organizers as well as review a small packet of training information.

If you would like to participate in the Young Professionals Leadership Training, please register for the conference and check the box adding the leadership training day to your package.  If you have further questions, please contact Whitney Kimball Coe.
