When it comes to education, rural matters. Today 1 in 3 Tennesseans attend a rural school, comprising nearly 300,000 students. Rural schools are spread throughout Tennessee’s 95 counties, in areas with varied levels of both poverty and economic opportunity. On average, these schools serve smaller numbers of students, which can limit funding, access to advanced coursework or school supports. Our latest report highlights the voices of rural educators and shines a light on key issues affecting rural students in Tennessee.
